Jimmy’s Fish House & Iguana Bar — Beach Bar Review

“When it comes to finding great food and drink; follow the locals.”

Once more, I found it good to spend my weekend at the Jimmy’s Fish House & Iguana Bar, which has become one of my very favorite hang-outs for a great meal and entertainment. This place started me on a new dinner menu trick. First I look at their wine list, which Jimmy’s reads like a who’s who of wine lists. Just read down the lists of California, Washington, Australia, Argentina, and a lot more, oh mustn’t forget the Italian. I was always a Merlot kind of guy, but Jimmy’s opened my mind to Pinot Noir and even Pinot Grigio! The only time I had drank white wine was at a Fisch Bach Fest in Germany, many years ago. But, now that I think of it, Jimmy’s is a lot like a Fisch Bach Fest. So now, I choose the wine I want to drink and then the prefect dinner to go with it.

This night, I decided on a white wine, mostly because I was thinking of that Fest. I actually chose the Terrazze della Luna an Italian white Pinot Grigio that was light, sweet and full of fruity flavors. With that, I had a Tuna Sashimi as my appetizer, which is a seared Ahi Tuna with pickled ginger, wasabi, soy sauce, and wakame salad. The flavors were out of this world good. As my entrée, I chose the blackened Florida Grouper along with a garden salad, island rice, steamed seasoned vegetables, and some fresh baked bread. Man, I was stuffed and almost didn’t have room for dessert. But, I had to man up and have the Fried Banana Cheesecake, which I had never had anywhere else and had to try it here since everyone was talking about it. Believe me, when I say, it is something you must have at least once in your life. That’s right, just put it on your bucket list now and stop into Jimmy’s next time you’re in Clearwater.

There are indoor and outdoor seating for both the bar and restaurant. Another thing I loved about Jimmy’s is that every seat boasts the fabulous landscape view of the Gulf of Mexico. I sat and watched the sunset over the Gulf and drank a few Coronas and Margaritas while listening to a live band, The Three Amigos.

Our conclusion and Beach Bar Review Drink Rating

After that magnificent dinner, I just had to come back for lunch. I grabbed a cold Corona and Jimmy’s Classic Cuban, which is roasted pork, ham and Swiss with pickles and mustard on hot Cuban bread, coupled with a side of Lobster Mac & Cheese. Once again, I had to waddle back to the hotel like a pregnant duck. I love clean places to eat and drink (and lots of it) and that is why I love to come here… cleanliness! And, unparalleled service.

We gave Jimmy’s Fish House and Iguana Bar a 4 and 1/2-drink rating for great food & drinks.
